WHAT IS TAI CHI?
Tai Chi Chuan is a sophisticated and supremely effective martial art.
The main objective of the art is to achieve good robust health and peace of mind,
while improving mental and physical efficiency and concentration.
Tai Chi is built around the ancient Chinese philosophy of Yin and Yang:
The harmony of complementary opposite forces in all things.
CHIEF INSTRUCTOR, SIFU GARY WRAGG
Our Chief Instructor, Sifu (Master) Gary Wragg, has practised Tai Chi for over 50 years
and is recognised as one of Europe’s leading experts in the art.
He is a senior 'Closed Door Student' of Grandmaster Wu Kwong Yu:
Head of the Wu Family and Gatekeeper of Wu Style Tai Chi Chuan.
Sifu Gary Wragg has twice been Chairman of the Tai Chi Union for Great Britain
and is the current Chairman of the International Taiji & Qigong Federation.
He teaches all levels at the Academy.
WU'S TAI CHI ACADEMY
EASILY ACCESSIBLE PERMANENT VENUE
There are very few Tai Chi organisations with a specialised, permanent venue like ours. Located in Bethnal Green,
East London since 2005. We offer daily classes and a comprehensive syllabus for all levels from beginner through to advanced, in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
All the senior instructors at the academy have been taught by Sifu Gary Wragg
and are fully qualified with international teaching experience.
You can start a beginners' course at any time, taking any classes from the timetable that suit your schedule. Tai Chi is an art which has so much breadth and depth that you can continue learning and
improving for a lifetime. There is no pressure to “keep up” in our classes; every person
can learn and progress at their own pace.
WU FAMILY STYLE TRADITIONAL SYLLABUS
Wu Family Tai Chi Chuan has a very clear and direct lineage unlike many other traditional styles of Tai Chi,
which are often “tweaked” by individual teachers and therefore evolve over time into numerous variants.
The head of the International Wu Style Tai Chi Chuan Federation, Grandmaster Wu Kwong Yu,
is the great-great-grandson of the 19th-century founder Wu Chuan Yau,
whose son Wu Chien Chuan created the modern style which we practise.
At our Academy we follow a completely traditional syllabus designed and
periodically reviewed by the Grandmaster.
Our syllabus focuses on the health benefits of Tai Chi and incorporates stretching, looseness, relaxation, and meditation. Independent studies continue to confirm the health benefits of Tai Chi. From preventing falls to rheumatoid arthritis to improved sleep, the evidence is growing. READ MORE
